Fern Tree Villa

#1 Post by cobba » Fri Jun 21, 2013 4:49 pm

Beattie postcard in 1913 of the "Fern Tree Villa" I have never seen this card before. Any assistance of where would be appreciated. I presume it went in Fires of 1967.
Cheers Kerry

I am completely guessing here.
There was a large building called Mountside shown on some of the early maps. It was located a short distance up Pillinger Drive.
It's not the Fern Tree Hotel/Tavern, I have seen photos of 3 incarnations of this, and your photo is different.

These are articles about Mountside:

However I think yours may be a different building after all.
See these about Fern Tree Villa:

Okay a late reply. I found this in the Tasmanian Archives: https://stors.tas.gov.au/PH30-1-5820# It is titled Photograph - Ferntree Villa, Fern Tree. So definitely NOT Mountside, as I suggested earlier. It was one of several accommodation places in the Fern Tree area. See http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article29141900
