Re: TASMANIAN SHIPPING CARDS - POST YOUR IMAGES HERE

NAVAL and PASSENGER/MERCHANT SHIPS AT HOBART - 1930s ? This real photo card is by an unidentified photographer. There is a large warship moored in the river (Hobart Regatta flagship?) and three more smaller naval vessels docked together at King's Pier. In addition, there are four passenger/merchant...

Re: Spurling Unknown Real Photo Cards

Regarding Card One - it may be a taken at the offices of Launceston City Corporation or a bank. I sold some photos by Spurling (I think) of city employees from roughly the same era yonks ago (both the photos and the auction I sold them in) ..... I'll see if I can hunt them down. Regarding Card Two ....

Re: Hobart and Launceston Trams - Real Photo Cards

Another Spurling view of a tram in Charles Street near the intersection with Brisbane .... a great action shot (like Mike's Rose card above) with cyclists, horse and cart, an old jalopy, etc. I assume this card would be from the 1920s http://tsauctions.com/bb/tram%20in%20charles.jpg A printed colour...

CALLED L.C.R. HOBART 21 JUN 1919

I have just discovered this much travelled cover in a box of "ho hum" KGV material. http://tsauctions.com/bb/called%20hobart.jpg Two questions I'd like some assistance with 1) have I assumed correctly that the indecipherable letters are indeed "L.C" thus making up "L.C.R." standing for "Letter Carri...

Re: Webster Rometch Cards

I found this advertisement for Webster, Rometch & Duncan in an edition of David Burn's " An Excursion to Port Arthur in 1842 " originally published (and illustrated) by J.W. Beattie in 1901 .... this would come from a later printing. I will try to find out some further information soon. ...............

Circular Head Tasm[mania] Postcard by O.S. & P.C. Co

I recently purchased this postcard with the view entitled "Circular Head Tasm." published by
O.S. & P.C. Co. (Oceanic Stamp & Post Card Company - Sydney).

Does anyone know the artist or if there are any other Tasmanian views in this series?

The D S & Co PERFIN (DODGSHUN SONS & Co) - Census, etc.

An article about this private perfin appears in "The Courier" No.46. (pages 12/13) as does a b&w image of this example (and four others), now in the collection of a TPS member. This forum provides an opportunity to compile a census of this particular private perfin. I am particularly interested in d...

I have just read the relevant entry re the Platypus s/duties in Easton (pages 316/317) and there is nothing provided to give any further illumination. The only mention of the ink used is quoted from De La Rue correspondence: "...although the stamps were required for Revenue purposes, they had been p...

FORGERY - Osterley South manuscript cancel on cover

This cover has recently surfaced in an auction consignment, the bulk of the material having been purchased (20+ years ago) from a Tasmanian dealer on the N.W. Coast who closed his shop in the 1980s. http://tsauctions.com/bb/osterley%20south%20fake%20mss.jpg It's a dud I'm afraid, recorded here in ca...
